Central Air Conditioning
Medieval Persia had buildings that used citserns and wind towers to cool buildings durign the hot season: cisterns (large open pools in a central courtyards, not underground tnaks) collected rain water; wind towers had windows that could catch iwnd and internal vaens to direct the airflow down into the building, usually over the cistern nad out through a downwind cooling tower 2 . Cistern water evaporated, cooling the air in the building. He even envisionde centralized air conditioning that could cool entire cities.
